One of the most frequent causes of missed work or medical visits is back discomfort. The majority of back pain is temporary, but chronic back pain is defined as lasting more than 12 weeks. Back discomfort is caused by a number of disorders, such as:
- Herniated discs
- Spinal stenosis
- Spondylolisthesis

What is it?
Compression of the sciatic nerve results in sciatica, a kind of radiculopathy. The sciatic nerve is the major nerve that runs down each leg after branching o of your lumbar spine. Pain from sciatica can travel down the back of one leg, from your lower back to your buttocks. Sciatica pain can range from a slight aching to a burning, burning feeling. Sciatica might feel like an electric shock at times. Typically, sciatica only affects one side of the body. Other symptoms, like tingling, numbness, and muscle weakness in one leg or foot, are brought on by severe sciatica. You can experience tingling in one leg and discomfort in another.

Doctor reviews your symptoms and medical history and performs a physical exam. He may perform tests, such as an X-ray or MRI scan, to diagnose the cause of your back pain. Doctor then develops an individualized treatment plan for your specific needs. Depending on the cause of your back pain, treatment may include:
- Physical therapy
- Steroid injections
- Medications
