Clavicle Fractures
SYMPTOMS AND CAUSES OF BROKEN COLLARBONES
- It is possible for the clavicle to break.
- Mid-bone fractures are frequently caused by this weak bone’s lack of central support.
- The majority of fractured collarbones result from trauma sustained while participating in a contact sport or from a direct collision to the shoulder or outstretched arm during a fall. Although most clavicle fractures occur in the middle of the bone, they can also happen at the scapula, or attachment to the rib cage.
A broken collarbone can cause the following symptoms:
Pain when trying to raise the arm Forward and downward drooping of the shoulders bruising and swelling over the collarbone sensation of bones on bones when the arm is raised Deformity or bump on the collarbone.
TREATMENT:
- Simple, hairline or singular clavicle fractures may be treated without surgery.
- Immobilizing the arm and shoulder with a sling and allowing the bone to heal is possible with some broken collarbones.
- For multiple or severe clavicle fractures, surgery. Open reduction and internal xation to repair and reset the bone, followed by recovery and rehabilitation, may be needed with complex broken collarbones.
